Assisi is a tiny beautiful place in Italy, known for trade and commerce, where St Francis of Assisi founder of Franciscan Capuchins was born. Assisi Press was established in the year 1970. The purpose behind this Press Apostolate was:
- To Print ‘Sevak’ then called ‘Tisrea Oddhicho Sevak’, and provide right information of the capuchin way of life and encourage the laity to accept their call for holiness in their life.
- To provide employment to the poor section of youth of those days.
The 50 years history of Assisi Press is the history of heroic deeds of many individuals. To begin with Rev. Bro. Leofold, the first appointed manager, who served the press to the best of his abilities for three years.
The good work he had begun was taken up and continued by Br. Steven Rego in the year 1973. Br. Steven a friar, with strength of Samson and the wisdom of Solomon, did his level best and merited the award of, ‘The Best Printer’, by the printers association.
Br. Vitus Prabhudas took up the responsibility in the year 1982 till 1985. From 1985-1986, with the joint ventures of Rev. Frs. Ben Britto and Rupert Barboza, from 1986-1987 Rev. Fr. John Baptist Brags, from 1988-1989 Rev Fr. Prashant Coelho and from 1989–1991 Rev. Fr. Desmond Rebello shouldered the responsibility.
Fr Bertrand, as a delegate came forward and served the press for a short spell.
Fr. Denis Saldanha introduced first time computers in the year 1991 and served for a long period of six years.
Fr Chetan Lobo carried on the work of press from 1996 – 1999. Fr Henry Vas was manager from 2000 -2008. Fr Noel DAlmeida took up the responsibility from 2008 – 2011.
Fr Alwyn Dsilva for the first time introduced multicolor machine as well as CTP Machine and was manager from 2011 – 2014. Fr Maxim DSilva was manager from 2014 – 2019. He introduced Komari Two color machine, folding machine, stitching Machine and Lamination Machine to Assisi Press. Br Victor Crasta took up task in May 2019 and served till March 2021.
